Anywhere will do, so long as it is out of africa. I am looking for every opportunity to leave these damn contient. I am looking for a place with no water rationing, with no traffic jams, with no potholed roads, where garbage is collected regularly, where i wont have to watch the horrors of beheaded people in every day news, where i dont have to go home early or else get mugged, where i can sue the police if they harass me, where there is human rights, am looking for anywhere else in the world but not africa.

In the last one month, i have been looking for the best possible ways to get trafficked into europe. The problem is that its damn expensive getting out of africa. These guys are charging upto $10,000 to land me in london, and since i cant afford it, and i cant get a genuine visa, am stuck.

A conspiracy by Osama, Bush and the Somalis in diaspora is keeping me from getting out and sampling all the pleasures and wealth that is missing from africa. Before Osama started his misadventures in the land of Bush, it was so easy to get out if you were somali. And you somalis who were lucky enough to get out before us aint helping our cause by behaving badly. Dont you know that by behaving badly and not contributing positively to your host country's development, you are denying us visas to our dreams and aspirations? Damn you people, you are so selfish!

If Mungiki was in NFD...

Horrible stuff is happening in Nairobi these days. People are being beheaded, cut into pieces and thrown into the ever polluted Nairobi river...These is done by our own version of the Mafia. They do lack in the sophistication i see in Mafia movies, but the Mungiki reign supreme when it comes to brutality. We have been treated to a daily dose of beheadings for a month now. At there most generous, its upto 7 deaths a week. Our government claims to have monopoly of violence in the country, the Mungiki say its a duopoly and on the strenght of evidence presented, am inclined to belive the mungiki. The only good thing is that the Mungiki leave somalis alone, perharps realising that when it comes to violence, we are better off than them.

I feel these government is at least trying to tame Mungiki, maybe because the Mungiki come from Central Kenya, which is predominantly Gikuyu, the tribe that rules us here. But what if these Mungiki was in NFD, the somali dominated region of kenya...what would have been the reaction? To answer that, we have to look at NFD's troubled history. When in the 60's, 70's and 80's, the somali nationalists(shiftas) were still operating in NFD, trying to cave it out for greater somalia, the kenyan government committed a total of three massacres against our people, the worst being the wagalla massacre when all male were rounded up and killied. Upto 8 thousand people died. Another more recent case is in 2003, when the ethiopian army attacked a village, in the name of pursuing OLF and killied upto a 100 males and children...the government just kept quiet, officially blaming it on OLF but govt officials being quoted saying warya wanauna(somalis killing themselves) and therefore, no need to interfere! Now, if the Mungiki was NFD, what would have been the treatment, either, keeping quiet as was the case with turbi or killing every male as was the case with wagalla?

Forza Milan!

Sir Alex's reaction: Priceless!

Outfought, outwitted and finally outclassed, these are images i will treasure for a long time.

End of my Internship.

In this part of the world, we are celebrating labour day, we are celebrating the achievements of workers in this country. Today, I'm also joining the multitude of young graduates who are unemployed in Kenya. My two months internship came to an end yesterday, a two months that i was massively underused such that when i was offered an extension of my internship, i opted not to take it. Had it not being for the fact that the internship was in partial fulfillment of my undergraduate course, i would have left much earlier. I have suffered three good years of crunching maths and cramming economics and all they could entrust me to do was data entry tasks...at least they made my decision so easy.

I'll get down to looking for a job soon, maybe after my graduation in July, but now my priority is to do things i have missed in my two month foray into the corporate world, like oversleeping, going to easich on a daily basis, hunting down some somali queens e.t.c I might even go to Mombasa to see hoyo and also to stare at the blondes in our public beaches.

Fire the wolf!

Paul Wolfowitz is a man who has no professional qualifications nor international development experience, therefore I assume that Mr Bush appointed him because of his hawkish qualities, that he was the right man to arm twist and whip corrupt and undemocratic states into line...now two years later, not only has he failed to do that, he is in deep trouble for helping his Arab girlfriend(a Muslim Arab dating a hawkish jew...) get a promotion and a pay rise. People are calling for his resignation and that is what surprises me a lot. The guy has refused to act honorably and resign, instead apologizing for what he terms as a mistake...Its simple, Fire him.

He has damaged the credibility of the world's biggest donor institution that is at the forefront of fighting corruption in the 3rd world countries and he doesn't even realize the level of damage he has done. I first heard about world bank in the 90's from the discussions of my dad and his friends (whenever they gathered at our house to chew khat) discussing the effects of the aid freeze the world bank had imposed on the Moi government because of corruption...and i have grown into adulthood knowing very well that these is one institution that can be relied upon to bring about change in governance and accountability problems in Africa. When the very guy entrusted to bring about that change starts engaging in very opaque actions, he shouldn't even be asked to resign, he should be fired. I hope the world bank board will move fast and reclaim the credibility of the institution and the trust of its members, otherwise, no despot in the third world will listen when the bank talks about corruption.

A tragic accident

Everywhere you turn Somalis are dying...15 died these weekend, not from a war but in a tragic road accident after their Mandera bound bus hit a pothole and overturned. The result is that Israel can continuously defy UN resolutions, continue with gross human rights abuses and extra judicial killings without no one raising a finger, we have an uncountable number of movies distorting the facts about the holocaust but none about the Palestinian suffering in the occupied lands and oh, regime change to any state posing a security risk to Israel. We shouldn't even concentrate in America alone, the guys in UK can also form a lobby group and the same with the Scandinavian guys...I'll surely do my best from Kenya. Imagine if we can just tilt the opinion of the decision makers towards helping Somalia...or better still, if we have Somalis in positions of decision making, whether in government or corporate sector in these developed countries, if we can just channel a slice of the development fund these countries give out yearly to Somalia and Somalis everywhere, if the US can cover for us as we rain terror in Addis using their Jets and bombs ... This high value catch was Abdulmalik Mohamed, a man whose friends describe him as a "humble and kind madrassa teacher who was true to his religion". Mr Mohamed, 37,is claimed to have planned the November 2002 attack in Kikambala, Mombasa, that saw the hotel burnt resulting in about 11 deaths and a missile aimed at an aircraft leaving Mombasa for Tel Aviv miss its target.

The arrest came at a time when Nairobi was in an insecurity wave with multiple murders and robberies being reported each day, therefore, the massive PR campaign by the Police at the arrest of a 'terror mastermind' was understandable...what is not is why the police dont have him right now. He has been shipped to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where he will be detained without trial and if he gets a trial, it will be by a military tribunal.

What makes this case special is that Abdulmalik Mohamed is a Kenyan citizen by birth, is accused of crimes committed in Kenya and yet he is freely given out by the Kenyan authorities to a foreign nation where there are no assurances that he will be tried. All that and the fact that Kenya has no extradition treaty with the US and there is no prima facie case against Mr Mohamed to warrant extradition. Abdulmalik Mohamed wasn't even given the chance to challenge that decision in a court of law.

It is painfully enough that a person is taken from his home to be detained in a foreign land without trial but what is more shameful and embarrassing is that in a country with a democratically elected government and with a rule of law, we can just surrender our sovereignty to a foreign power for nothing.

It isnt an easy Job

In an audacious bid to make you smile on a monday and to make the ladies appreciate just how hard a work we do, i am sharing an email that i received sometime back and which i strongly relate to that explains why guys are quiet in bed...

Guys are quiet in bed because we are too busy thinking. You heard me right. Thinking. Deep thoughts. You see, it seems to generally be the guy’s job, (at least in my experience) to make the girl feel as good as possible and have sweet, sweet orgasms. The girl, on the other hand, is generally content to just lay back and see what I’ve got to offer. As a matter of fact, apart from the exotic populations of Europeans and Indians, and the ruling Kikuyu ethnic group, no other tribal grouping has as much wealth and as many tycoons as the Somalis... but none of our tycoons beats a certain Sheikh Burhan. A few might match his wealth but no Somali is as influential in the Kenyan political scene...yet he is not a politician. These guy is a case study in Somali ingenuity and if there is such a thing as The Somali Dream he has lived it. He rose from herding camels to a life of opulence. He is not educated but i hear he can speak english these days. I have never met him but i used to admire him, until Thursday the 15th of March.

It seems one good Kenyan in the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission (of which i have a lot of complains against) smelt something rotten in these tycoons vast real estate empire. When the good sheikh found out there was a 'dog' from Kacc sniffing around, he decided to do what most Kenyans do when confronted with these hungry dogs from Kacc... give it something to sink its canines onto. He proceeded to make an appointment with the investigator in a public hotel and gave out a bribe of Kshs 1 million. Now, in a country where more than half of us live on less than a dollar a day, you surely can understand when i say A million Kenyan shillings is a lot of money.

There was only one problem that these self-made billionaire did not anticipate...that he was not dealing with an ordinary dog, he wasnt dealing with an ordinary Kenyan police officer...In short, our tycoon was set up. He was captured on press video giving out the bribe. Now we get to the most amazing part of my news story.

Only two out of four present TV stations showed the clip at 7 in the evening and surprisingly none showed it at prime Kenyan news time...at 9 pm. He bought the Kenyan media, dear bloggers. Still, he was taken to court where nearly all the Kenyan Somali MPs and 3 other cabinet ministers attended. The court room was packed by Somalis and all business came to a standstill. The packing space at Makadara law courts was full and so the adjacent Jogoo road was turned into one. He was granted a bond of 15 million and a surety of similar amount and the case was postponed to September...I did not get an opportunity to interview him since he was driven off in an entourage of cabinet ministers. Despite all that, the media still gave it a blackout and that is the sad story of the Kenyan media scene.

Who makes somalia's currency?

The discovery in a printing press in Nairobi of counterfeit somali shillings worth 6 million KSHs made me wonder who makes the somalia currency...and how the old money is replaced...or are they still using the money that was in circulation 15 years ago? The only other time i wore a tie was in high school since it was part of the school uniform. Back then it wasnt a problem since hoyo would just tie it at the start of the term and i would use it for the next three months. There was no need to wash it since we were in a boys boarding school.

As if choosing the tie to wear wasnt difficult enough, i had to wake up my cousin to tie it on my 1st day. After making a fuss of the fact that i had woken him so early in the morning (It was already past seven), he made it in a funny way and noticing that i didnt fancy it that way, he called it the "british style" of tying, clearly using my ignorance to justify himself. Being my 1st day, i wasnt prepared to take risks with my image (I had read somewhere that 1st impressions were very important in shaping peoples opinion towards you), so i called a friend and went to his office who did it for me.

At office, my supervisor decided to give me a tour of the office against my will, starting with our department of which he is the head to all the other departments. He is a nice guy, my supervisor...sadly, so far that is about the best thing i can say about that company...on 1st impressions.

Back to the tie, i googled it. I learned that there were so many ways to tie a necktie...but there is nothing called "the british style" as my cuzo would have me believe. The problem is on the next day, i still couldnt do it. It was the same friend, laughing his ass off, who did it for me. Now i have printed the instructions and have been practising these weekend. Hopefully, by tomorrow, i'll have the finished article.

Should i laugh or cry?

The following news items may pass off as a joke in any other place but sadly, in Pakistan, they are an every day occurrence...

Pakistani man sells wife's kidney to buy tractor

KARACHI (Reuters) - Pakistani police have arrested two men after a village woman complained that her husband and relatives had sold one of her kidneys in order to buy a tractor, police said on Tuesday.

Although her kidney had been removed 18 months earlier, the woman, named Safia, only learnt it was missing after seeking treatment for a urinary tract problem in January.

"She has said that she was three months pregnant when her husband, Shakeel Ahmed beat her and then took her to the hospital for treatment," said Mohammad Akram, duty officer at Noushera Jadeed police station in Punjab province.

"But at the hospital her husband, in connivance with three other people, sold her kidney to buy the tractor," he said.

More...

Girl lost in poker game pleads for help

HYDERABAD (Reuters) - A teenage girl in southern Pakistan, whose late father lost her in a poker game when she was 2 years old, has asked authorities to save her from being handed over to a middle-aged relative.

Rasheeda, 17, said she has filed applications with the police and a local councillor asking them to prevent Lal Haider, 45, from taking her to his home.

Her mother, Nooran said her husband racked up a debt of 10,000 rupees ($151) to Haider playing cards.

"My husband didn't have money to pay, and instead he told Lal Haider that he could take Rasheeda when she grows up," she said. Find out more...

Weep for the pakistani woman, wherever you are...

The world isnt all gloom though, at least not for me...I have just been informed my small sis got an A in her KCSE exams...perharps dad might now get a Doctor in the family since she fancies medicine. The 1st wife of a kenyan somali member of parliament is recuperating in Nairobi hospital after a very public beating. The MP in question is Mandera east MP, Hon Shaaban Ali Isaak who doubles as the assistant minister of one of the many nondescript ministries that is a reserve for somali MPs in Kenya. This is not the 1st time his two wives are fighting in public.

The 1st time was more dramatic, very petty, funnier, fairer and less severe. Dramatic because they fought in a mosque, petty because they fought over nothing. The truth is they fought over the husband, but their reason for sparking that war was basic kindergarten stuff.
1st wife: why are you looking at me
2nd wife: How did you know i was looking at you, whore...
A slap followed that, then a full blown fight inside a mosque... in the end the 1st wife's lip was not pleasing to kiss after a good bite from the cowife. The MP wanted to divorce his 1st wife after that incident but his relatives oppossed the move. He relented...he shouldnt have, if only to spare her from what was coming.

That was at the end of last year. Not two months later, they were at it again. This time, the 2nd wife got much cleverer and the result, two surgeries in two days for her competitor. They met in a wedding in KICC's tintin restaurant. The 1st wife was the organiser. Naturally, the cowife wasnt invited but she made a showing, not alone but with her crew.

At about midnight, when the somali mommas were busy shaking their things, someone told the 1st wife that she is needed outside. People heard arguments, then screams, as other people rushed out, the the 1st wife and her crew jumped into her car and speeded off. Apparently, the woman was assaulted with broken soda bottles. Police locked everybody into the hotel as they sought an explanation...

That is when a lady whom i had dropped off and promised to pick her up called me. I drove there from Easich only to find the place full of police...fortunately for everybody else, the wife of another political heavyweight, Wajir West Mp Hon Mohamed Abdi (who is also low profile cabinet minister), was in attendance. She explained the situation and everyone was left off.

It was very embarassing for the MP the 1st time...these beats the it. Can it get more embarassing than these? I wouldnt bet against it.

All Hail the King!!

Awesome, invincible, graceful, legend, genius, flawless, immaculate.... the superlatives and synonyms run out when describing Roger Federer, the finest export from swirtzerland. This guy just took the Australian Open without dropping a set (and without playing his best tennis), the 1st person to do that for over 2 decades i am told. I was attracted to Tenis by the gorgeous women on court, but these days, if i have the time, i dont miss Roger Federer playing. The guy is just a delight to watch.

A genius like him arrives once in a generation but rather than just watch and be grateful enough to witness a master at work, i always wish he doesnt win, but i want him to make all the way to the final, then lose. I have always hated hegemonys and that is what Federer has created in Tennis, an aura of invincibility surrounds him and most of his opponents are already beaten when they step on court, unless the surface is clay and the opponent is the brute Nadal. In the end, unless its the French Open, we witness practice sessions for Roger Federer as he beats yet another opponent who would have been great were Federer not born...and Andy Roddick comes to mind. I felt sorry for these guy after his thrashing in the semi. These is how he described how it feels to receive yet another hiding at the hands of the master, "It was frustrating. It was miserable. It sucked. It was terrible." At only 25, the word Great and the greatest have already been used to describe him many times. Even if, as i wish, he doesnt win the French Open come May, Federer is already guaranteed a place in the tennis, no, the sports hall of fame.

On another note, these teenager Nicole Vaidisova might just be the one to give our fav teen, Maria sharapova some competition, off the court that is. She just might be the one to take away some attention from Maria, who has dominated us, adoring fans, since the tennis demise of Kounikova.

I never thought these day would come...

At least not so soon. Obviously when the south African high court made the momentously stupid decision to allow gay marriages on African soil, it only was a matter of time before the other African fags started demanding 'their rights' too. It just never occurred to me that it would happen in Kenya so soon. These retarded sub-humans called a press conference under the umbrella of the gay and lesbian association of Kenya demanding for what they called 'their rights'. I am just wishing i was the president for a day...so that i could teach these people a lesson. Those people were just so revolting and disgusting from the TV, i dont know what my reaction can be if, God forbid, i meet a gay person...i can maybe tolerate a lesbian, make fun of them(like pay them to do their stuff while i watch) but a gay man...these are the people who should be wiped off the earth.

Luckiest Cat Ever

countable dreams.

When i was young, i wanted to be a pilot. My friend awino wanted to be an engineer. In our primary school, we all wanted to either be a pilot, a doctor, an engineer or a lawyer. It was as if there were only four careers. I dont know how many attained those dreams but certainly me and awino havent, at least not yet.

Watching news yersterday made me remember my childhood dream. The news item was the release of the results of KCPE(Kenya certificate of primary education) Exams. The top achievers were being intervieweid. You can guess what they wanted to be when they grow up. Just one of the four careers mentioned above. The interesting part was when they started showing adult prisoners who had passed the exams. All but one wanted to be doctors. Is it a stage we all pass through? I got the feeling that if i take my grand ma to school right now, she'll want to be one of the above when she grows up. To make my sample more unbiased, I called my two nephews and asked them what they wanted to be when they grow big...one a pilot, the other one a doctor.

I cant understand why the dreams of the kenyan children are convergent....why our dreams were countable. Is it a case of parents living their dreams through their children? Could be, i certainly know of kids whose parents want them to be what they never managed to be. Or is it because our young minds options are limited to only those careers which are perceived to be well paying here in kenya?

Go away from my country!

Somalia isnt my country but as a somali i feel for it. But if you want peace,

go away from my country to your own.

Today the leaders of the Union of Islamic Courts

The inheritors of the mantle of Sayyid Mohamed Abdille Hassan

Have delivered the same message

To the Tigrinyan Tosspot

To the Tigrinyan Totalitarian

To Mickey Mouse Melles:

If you want peace, go away from our country to your own.

Don’t listen to what Yay & Ghedi are whispering in your eager ears.

This land is not yours!

Our creed

Our country

Are not for sale.

Just like the days of the Sayyid

Just like the days of yore

Just like the days of lore

There are two types of Somalis:

The foolish faithless few traitors who let themselves be led astray

Like Yay

Like Ghedi

Who have treason in their blood.

These Melles minion mental mules are a minuscule minority

Without merit

Without muscle

Without marrow

Without mind

Without might

Without main

Without moxie

Without marbles.

Yellow Yay & Ghastly Ghedi are on The Road to Damnation:

It is their lot

To limp along the road to hell led by the nose by Mendacious Melles

To trot in terror behind the enemy alien honky Kaffir infidel

To understand nothing

To be condemned to Madness

Like Bush

They are full of bushwa

Like Bush

Like Blair

Like Melles

It is their lot

To hate Islam & That botched joke landed him in all sorts of problems with women and women groups...so you can understand our trepidation when we just kept queit, waiting for the one girl present to bring the sky down on him but since she just broke into a smile, we had a healthy and humurous debate... that of course ended in a stalemate thanks to the one woman present. For the next two weeks i have to labour and try to pass. The only consolation is that with these exam, i say bye to university exams( I dont want a postgraduate degree, i have suffered enough).

As i prepare for this final exam, am asking myself if exams serve a noble purpose, if they have a noble purpose at all. Are they just for sifting the maize from the chaff, for separating the 'bright' from the 'stupid'? Can a single or even collective test score be considered our measure of intelligence? I tend to think that exams defeat their purpose. They never pick out the best. How else do you explain the fact that a person so good in exams becomes a total failure in work. Exams also aid the establishment of status classes in society, at least here in kenya. The rich kids go to the best schools, where they are then literaly drillied to pass exams. In this schools, one is thought to pass exams...no need to know because of knowledge, just pass the exams and then go get an ivy league education and come back to kenya to take your dads job. All these time the poor kid, who has a real appetite for knowledge doesnt get the necessary resources to do well in exams. At best, (s)he goes to a mid level college, otherwise its just another statitic, a drop out, for the rich guys to read about.

Perharps its a case of Hobson's choice. Perharps the system is not to blame. Perharps there is just no other way of testing one's creativity, imagination, innovativeness, effort and personality. But there is no consolation that exams fail to capture any of those attributes.

"You're a wonderful human being, but the tests don't show it."
Educator Chuck Lavaroni to Gilbert Medeiros after telling him he shouldn't plan to go to college as a result of his test scores. Chuck later met Gilbert at a party in Marin County, only to hear that Gilbert got a law degree, worked as vice president for a large real estate firm, owned and ran 5 different companies

World Aids day

Yesterday was world aids day. I didnt know these till i watched news late at night. So, to wish aids a belated 25th sad birthday, i have decided to place these banner. And go red too.

I am a happy man that the AIDS scourge hasnt affected somalis as much as it has affected the rest of Africa...but my country, Kenya, is bleading. I weap for Kenya. But despite all the gloom, there is good news. I am told in 3 years only, the Aids prevalence rate has dropped from a high of 13% among Kenyan adults to 5.9% these year. That is good news. I dont want to dwell on the AIDS statistics, they are appaling. They are shameful...its a pity. So, i'll do what i can. I'm starting by joining red today and hope to raise awareness among people.

Lets join (red) and make aids history.
Keep the promise.

6 weird things about me...

Got tagged by Firefly to write 6 weird things about myself...let me try.

I. A mild form of ADD?
I've got difficulty in sustaining attention for long periods, especially when doing anything academic and except when watching football or being with a girl. I have diagnosed that to be a very mild form of attention deficit disorder. It doesnt need treatment so no one should suggest that i see a shrink or something.

2. Blue briefs and boxers...
All my boxers are either blue or shades of blue. I dont like any other color touching my precious goods.

3. I cant ride a bike...
And its not for a lack of trying. My dad bought me a bike when i was about 4...and when learning how to, i fell off and injured my leg. The coward that i am, i have never been able to overcome that traumatic event. I tried learning again when in my adolescents but i just couldnt.

4. Hate at 1st sight!
It has happened to me once. After high school, when waiting for my KCSE results, i enrolled in an IT college in Nairobi. I hated my lecturer from day 1, for no reason....and well, she didnt like me too. I never finished that 1st programming lecture. After 2 days, i dropped out. That feeling has never resurfaced.

5. Bend rules...
I think its never wrong to bend rules to suit you...but take care not to break them.

6. Shumacer syndrome.
Am always cagey about my private life. I never give definite answers to questions on my private life. I call it shumacer syndrome coz he, like me, reveals little about his missus.

New seven wonders of the world?...I disagree!!

Last week, the american tv network, abc news, announced its 7 new wonders of the world. It was big news here in Kenya coz the maasai mara was one of them, the 7th new wonder of the world. While i have no qualms about the new 5th(the internet) and 7th new wonder of the world(the great migration and maasai mara) , i cant agree with the other 5...Granted, they are magnificient, but do they inspire shear awe and admiration? Are they modern enough to be relevant in this world? I say No. The most glaring omission from that list is The hajj...our own annual pilgrimage to Mecca...for if the migration of animals in their thousands can make it to the list, what about the migration of human beings in their millions, clad in white ihram dresses? I cant think of a more spectacular thing than the haji...from the pictures to the rituals. Infact, the ritual of stoning the devil could be a wonder in itself as could be the standing on the mount of mercy...surely, where else can u find a congregation of at least 2 million humans standing at the foot of a mountain, dressed in white and supplicating to their God? For me, the hajj is definetely the 1st wonder of the world.

What else could make my list? Well, space. Man has gone to space over 50 years ago yet we know so little. We've spent so much on it, billions of dollars looking for answers and yet we have more questions. It just holds so much unknown that its awe inspiring...and the pictures are also spectacular. For me space is just behind Hajj and the internet on top of my list.

The Taj mahal, a monument of love, is a celebration of woman in marble. A perfect gift to a man's favourite woman, its a living example that love really is real. The taj mahal is really wonderful...this is a tribute to beauty...a representation of a muslim emperor's undying love for his woman. If you are looking for wonders of the world, how can these miss? It is best described by the English poet, Sir Edwin Arnold, as "Not a piece of architecture, as other buildings are, but the proud passions of an emperor’s love wrought in living stones."

The abcnews voted for Jerusalem, i vote for temple mount or dome of the rock. A site holy to muslims, christians and jews alike. Its hard to get such a unanimity between these three groups, yet these site manages to do just that. It was built between 687 and 691 by the 9th Caliph, Abd al-Malik...yet its still Jerusalem's best known and eye catching landmark. The jews call it Temple Mount while we muslims call it the Noble sanctuary.

I am still thinking of the 7th one...maybe, i might agree with abcnews on these one...The Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet, was once a center of government, a residence of Tibet's ruler, the Dalai Lama, the site of a monastery, and a mausoleum for eight previous Dalai Lamas. It is a 13-story building built on 32 acres of land. in Lhasa, Tibet, was once a center of government, a residence of Tibet's ruler, the Dalai Lama, the site of a monastery, and a mausoleum for eight previous Dalai Lamas. It is a 13-story building built on 32 acres of land. This is spectacular enough...and has relevancy in this world...afterall, the Dalai Lama lives there. Untill i think of another one, am compeled to agree with the americans on these one.

So, here is my complete list;
I. The hajj pilgrimage
II. Space
III. The internet
IV. The potala palace in Lhasa, Tibet.
V. The Taj Mahal.
VI.The dome of the Rock.
VII. The Great migration.

My friends...

"Do not save your loving speeches

For your friends till they are dead;

Do not write them on their tombstones,

Speak them rather now instead"

Anna Cummins

This is a post dedicated to my great friends. All of them. For the ones who i have written here...and the ones i havent. I love u all.

Awino;

A great friend. One of the closest i have right now. Awino is his nick that he hates...and i love. He's got a somali name. We've got a lot in common...and lots of differences too. He is a proud guy...cocky for some people, outright arrogant for others, but i understand him more than he thinks i do.

Mash;

A friend that everyone would love to have. Very generous. Very understanding and helpful in whatever problems u would have. The type of friend who never sleeps when u've got a minor headache. A wonderful person, really, he is just wonderful. He listens to everyone...and that might be his undoing...he is a tad more gullible than everyone else. Another close friend.

Somafric;

Wanna laugh? Then get to know this guy. A lady's fav...onlys coz of his humuor. He is an open book. He hides nothing from his friends...and always thinks out aloud. Generous. I can always think out aloud when with him.

Baba;

High school friend. Once left me with a swollen eye after a fist fight. Perharps that fight made us closer. A very good non-somali pal of mine. He'll always be my friend.

Deco;

Grown up together. Used to be best friend in my formative and primary school days. I have got a soft spot for this guy, and he's got a soft spot for me too...partly coz we grow up together, partly coz we've been through a lot together. We have developed into very different people...and our interests and hobbies are miles apart and as a result we dont talk that much these days...but he's the kind of friend that u always know treasures u and u treasure him. The years he was my best friend are always treasured...and even though we dont talk that much, i gotta love and respect for this guy.

Teso;

An uncle and a friend. I havent seen him for 5 years now. Gotta say i miss him big time. We also grew up together...and coz he was a little older, we never used to walk nor play together but he would always listen to u...And i learnt a lot from him. Even though we've changed and we are all finding our place in the world, we both know that when the tears fall or the smile spreads across our face, we'll come to each other because no matter where this crazy world takes us, nothing will ever change so much to the point where we're not all still friends.

Mato;

One of my oldest friends...from 1996. We knew each other from 96 but have been best of friends since 1999. All through high school, we never left each others side...through thick and thin. The amazing thing is we have a lot in common...and that is why we will always be friends.

Kriss;

Current classmate in university...An immensly talented guy. U cant get a person with more academic prowess. He is the gonna be big in life, if he stays away from alcohol...u heard here first. He also a great guy. One of his biggest strenght is his ability to be a friend to almost everyone and his ability to strike a conversation with everybody. He always fits in with every crowd...and is always an optimist. He could also make it big in motivational speaking.

Kido;

One of my few female friends. Now in states. She was great...when she wasnt angry at me. I miss her.

Dadiir;

Always ready to learn from his friends...and he listens to them. If only he could stay away from the damn tobacco...!

Fatush;

I'd like to be the sort of friend to her that she has been to me. I feel that she hasnt meant a lot to me as i have to her...and am hoping to make up for that.

Wordz;

Deskmate in std 6...passed through high school together and always treasured each other. Another very talented guy...if only he knew how talented he was! I always say "what a wasted brains..." when i think of him.

Elvo;

Quiet intelligent...we've got little in common, but have been great friends. Another high school guy now in states.

Siz;

Just that, my sister... and my friend.

Nuria;

A good friend. Always supportive...and i always tell her evrything...everything.

Daddy;

Daddy. My dad...my friend.

Stev;

Always has a witty answer to every question. Looks queit like a talented writer, though he doesnt know it. I should convince him to have his own blog. At times weird...but very cormfortable to be with. Has delusions of grandeur. And is a man u fan.

Kev;

The person i have argued with most in college. We are always conflicting...conflicting teams, him man u, me arsenal, conflicting idealogies...always. But a good guy. Never speaks to women when sober...never speaks to men when drunk.

Gal;

A virtual buddy...we chart a lot and she is quiet hilarious. She's got away of cracking me up.

Me;

Last but not least...i am my best friend. A man's gotta love himself. Maxwell Maltz said "If you make friends with yourself, you will never be alone" . True, i'll never be alone...coz i have myself.

And many more that i forgot here...

"The bird a nest,

the spider a web,

man friendship."

William Blake .

lol...

I found these in the daily nation...

This guy loathed his wife’s cat and deciding to get rid of him, drove 20 blocks from home and left the cat in a park. When he got home, the cat was walking up the driveway.
Next day, he drove 40 blocks but the cat was waiting on his return. He kept taking the cat farther and farther away but each time, the moggy beat him home.
Finally, he gassed up the car, checked the tyres and went on a marathon drive: past the park, right, left, right again, over a bridge, under the motorway, into the petrol station and through the next town. There he left the cat.
Many hours later, the wife gets a call. "Er darling, is the cat there? Why yes dear, why do you ask? Just put the damn thing on the phone, will you. I’m totally lost."

lol...

The curse of a strike!

Date: 6th october 1998
Event: Kenyan primary school teachers go on strike...

Jump 4 years...

Date:23rd September 2002
Event:Kenyan teachers strike

Fast forward...4 years later

Date:23 october 2006
Event: Kenyan lecturers strike

You just might wonder what this events have to do with wasmaniac...I'll tell you. On the 6th October 1998, I was just one month away from finishing my primary school education. I was in std 8 awaiting my kenya certificate of primary education exams to start one month later...then the teachers went on strike.

On the 23rd of september 2006, i was in Form Four...awaiting to finish my high school education. It was again exactly a month before my KCSE...and the damn teachers went on strike..

Now...2006. Am in my final year, final semester, undergraduate degree programme...slightly over a month before i finish my academic degree and go for an industrial attachment...and then, something silly happens, again...Lecturers go on strike!

2010...Premonition:
Date: somewhere in sep/oct 2010
Event: strike...by who, am wondering!!

Who says the beautiful ones are not yet born?

Whoever says that the beautiful ones are not yet born is a big liar. Well, i have to admit that i used to take that saying at face value...using it whenever any friend of mine blabers about the beauty of any woman...Not anymore, for today i met the most beautiful woman in the world. Angelina Jolie was voted the most beautiful woman...the lady i met beats angelina jolie pants down, bras out!!. By conjecture therefore, this lady, who i dont even know her name is the most beautful woman on earth.

When i saw her, my reaction was a muted gasp...followed by an akward minute of silence before i said Mashallah!. The friend i was with then took charge for he saw that i was overwhelmed by the sheer beauty that this lady possessed. He asked for what we came for and she gave it to him...they then talked briefly...all this time am just staring, willing the lady to keep talking on, for she was mesmerizing while talking. My friend then tagged on my shirt, pulling me away while laughing. We had stood there for about 5 to 10 minutes and i didnt utter a word.

Fortunately, my friend happens to have her number...and well, even if i'll never kiss those lips that i saw, it'll just be refreshing to have her as a friend to stare at.

Reading Routing...

Thierry Henry went into Arsenal's game with Reading on sunday having scored against every Premiership side he had ever faced, all 33 of them. <color=red>The Royals' much touted defence responded by keeping the Frenchman out for a heroic 58 seconds</color> before they were speared by a rampant Henry who took his top-flight full-spectrum dominance tally to 34.

Arsenal's display of fluid passing and superb technical ability was nothing short of a master-class. This was "champagne football" at it's most invigorating.

Reading were simply out of their depth. Reading are a small provincial club who have spent the majority of their irrelevant history playing in the lower leagues. They were going head-to-head with the Giants of London, a club with a grand, virtuoso history - a club for which success runs in the blood.

Let's run through the Arsenal team:

Thierry Henry is the greatest footballer alive. Robin Van Persie is the saviour of the Dutch National team. Theo Walcott is the brightest prospect in English football. Cesc Fabregas is the best young player in the world. Kolo Toure and Willian Gallas are both talented, athletic defenders - John Terry could learn a lot from watching these two superior players.

Now for Reading:Steve Sidwell once played for the Arsenal Reserves.

UN in Kenya person of the Year 2006.

The UN in Kenya has awarded my only role model, Njoki Ndungu, as its Person of the Year 2006. This is in recognition of her tireless efforts in trying to improve the welfare of women in this God forsaken country...Njoki recently succesfully lobbyied for the passing of her motion, the sexual offences act, 2006 that seeked to enact tough and punitive measures for sexual scavengers in Kenya. Apart from that, i admire this woman for her maturity and intellect when discussing issues affecting this country. She even talks passionately about issues affecting Somalis in kenya such as FGM and 2nd class status of the rural somali folks. I really think this award was overdue for Njoki Ndungu. If she ever thinks of vieying for the Kenyan presidency, she has my unconditional support...and the support of many more disgruntled Kenyans who need inspiration! Long live Njoki...

And by the way, Njoki Ndungu is also the hottest female in Kenya's politics...and she is single. What a bad Eid! I have never had such a bad Eid...and i really wouldnt wish on anyone to have such a bad Eid. First of all, there was no one to slaughter for us the goat that i had psyched up to eat the moment i saw it. The result was i had to go to salat-ul-Eid without eating goat meat and liver. This is the 1st ever Eid such an ominous act ever occurred. It was a sign of things to come. We had to drive to Sir Ali Muslim Club for the Eid prayers since the damn Chief Kadhi is still fasting and so our local mosque wont allow us to have Eid prayers untill the Chief Kadhi announces his version of the Eid. So we packed ourselves in a car, me, my uncle whom i stay with and a cousin who happens to be one of my best friends. We weaved through the monday Nairobi jam and reached Sir Ali muslim club. While well inside the ground (which is a large cricket pitch with one entrance), i realized, painfully, that i had not taken ablution at home and the caretakers of the place just wont help me with water. To make matters worse, there was no way out of the place untill the prayers were over. I had to improvise...i just used the dew from the grass to wipe water on my...ever taken a sponge bath?

After the prayers, it was again nightmare getting out of the place...i was pushed, shoved and nearly fell. What happened after this...well, was even worse. Not worth writing over that. Thank God the day is over is all i can say right now...and i am about to be served with goat meat.

Know how to blog.

I am still learning. Less than ten posts i would imagine. Am i hooked? The answer; Far from it. Unlike most people, am not yet hooked to blogging. The reason is not because i cant think{Damn}, nor is it because i cant write. The reason is uncharacteristicly, am learning slowly. I want to put up links but i cant and i get frustrated but that. Perharps another reason is that PC hampers my creativity as i explained in another post. I get the urge to blog...write and write and write whenever i am alone and not staring at a screen. I'll have to work on that and make blogging a daily phenomenon in my life since i got a lot to write about.

Have a Dark side?

Does everyone have a dark side? The ambitious man that i am, that should be great news. I should be jumping up and down willing the days to go faster, quicker...but am not. The reason; the university tells us to look for the companies that we'll go to internship ourselves, the students.

Now, before you jump to the conclusion that its an easy undertaking, remember one thing: That i live in Kenya. Well, my plan is simple. 1st, make my, well, average looking CV. Then hit the road and go to the 43 Insurance companies, the over 50 banks and the 3 actuarial consultancy firms in Nairobi begging them to give me an unpaid 8 week internship. If they refuse, which is the most probable outcome, i'll then and only then ask for help from relatives. tell them to intervene for me. If that doesnt work( because i dont have that many relatives in position of authority)...it will be disaster. Wait...perharps, but just perharps, the university will place me. In the meantime, if u hear my plea, pray for me.

what causes headaches?

MY head is aching, for two days now. Maybe its the 7 day old flu that i have. Maybe not. But the headache has got me thinking( and its hard to think when your head is aching, leave alone to type). What causes headaches? I have asked my self this question for two hours now. It made me lose concentration in a Financial Time Series lecture.( Am hardworking, aint I?...in a lecture with a headache!) My curiosity to find out what causes headaches led me to this cyber cafe in Nairobi. I googled that question...and guess what, Nobody knows for sure. The answers ranged from Scientists are yet to unravel the causes of headaches... to The precise causes isnt known but... and i thought to myself, C'mon Guys(read scientists), you can do better.

You might think it was a waste of time and money(cause we pay for cyber time in Kenya) to come into the cyber for the sole purpose of knowing the causes of headaches(as if i could treat myself even if i knew) but it wasnt. At least, am fealing much better now with my headache. Its decreased its intensity.

Super sunday Retrospectively.

I dreamt. That looks like ages ago. The reality is so much better than dreams that i might just stop dreaming. Beating Man u at old trafford was what i dreamt about. It came to pass...and it was sweet. Very sweet. What made it that sweet for a team used to winning? Well, coz we were due a win over united. And coz we hadnt won a single game in top flight this season. So that was it. I credit all the win not to the person who scored the goal but to one Cesc Fabregas and goalie Lehman.

The amazing thing about that win has got to be the "unanimous nature" of our win i.e everyone from Sir alex to the man u fans agreed the best team won.

The only downside to super sunday is that liverpool disappointed me, Again! A player i have never fancied pulled one out of his hat. didear Drogba scored a stunner...one that i could bet could take the goal of the season. But again, if u are losing, at least lose from such a genious act...something out of this world...the likes of didier Drogba's goals are always going to stick in my mind.

psyched up for super sunday!

I woke up dreaming early morning about Arsenal having thrashed Man U at old trafford. I rarely dream about football...infact, today was the 2nd time. The other time was over 6 years ago when i still had dreams of becoming a proffessional footballer and playing for...well, u guessed right: The Gunners. This 1st dream remains just that, a dream. The 2nd one is less than 24 hrs away from either going the way of the 1st or becoming right...though i wouldnt place my money on it becoming right, given Arsenal's current form. That was how the day started. The rest has been rather boring...with the best part being arguing with Man u fans whether we'll beat them or not. I think we will but i aint sure.

Does PC hamper creativity?

I always think of a lot of things when alone, in bed, eating, walking or even having sex. My creativity and thinking are at their optimum. Not so when I sit infront of the PC. I could spend hours surfing but my creative self just switches off or goes to sleep. Its a problem i am trying to fight since even writing my college essays on word is becoming hard. This isnt the same when i take a note pad(physical) and start writing. That has made me wonder if PC hampers creativity...and if the problem is me or many people.

Ideally, i would have done a research and published the results...but since their isnt anything ideal in kenya anymore and because of the budget constraints of doing that research, i just decided to write that in this blog.
